The Dade City Police Department deploys two K-9 Teams.

The first team, consisting of an officer and a German Shepherd, is dedicated to patrol and narcotics work. Together, their duties include tracking wanted or missing persons, conducting building searches, and drug searches in structures and vehicles. This officer also provides backup to the patrol shifts, conducting traffic and narcotics enforcement and handling calls for service.

The second team consists of a patrol sergeant and a bloodhound. While the sergeant maintains primary responsibility of overseeing a shift in the uniform patrol division, this team is also available to conduct tracking work when needed. The unique and highly specialized tracking ability of a bloodhound is renowned and provides the community with an excellent resource for locating missing and endangered adults and children.

Both officers assist other agencies in the greater Tampa Bay area, on or off-duty, when there is a need for a dog. The officers and their K-9 partners are frequently requested by the public for demonstrations and participate in several community events throughout the year.
