The Community Development Department's mission is to promote public welfare and safety, improve aesthetics through urban design, enhance the business community, and preserve neighborhoods by providing quality planning and growth management services that is knowledgeable, efficient, comprehensive, and helpful.

COMPREHENSIVE PLANNING

The Comprehensive Planning Section of the Community Development Department is responsible for the development, evaluation and maintenance of the City's Comprehensive Plan.  The City's Comprehensive Plan is a broad policy document that prescribes how the City will develop in future years.   

CURRENT PLANNING / DEVELOPMENT REVIEW

The Current Planning Section of the Community Development Department operates as a clearing house for the Development Review Committee.  The Development Review Committee (DRC) is responsible for review and approval of current planning projects.   The DRC is made up of City Staff from various Departments and Divisions of the City and meets as needed on the 4th Wednesday of each month to coordinate and analyze requests for development approval of site and construction plans, subdivision plats and variances from the City's Land Development Code, 

The Board of Adjustment/ Development Review Committee has the authority to decide appeals of any land development code or zoning code requirements or written determination or interpretation of the Zoning Code by Community Development Director and to grant variances from the regulations of the Land Development Code and Zoning Code if they have resulted in an unnecessary or undue hardship. The Board of Adjustment consists of the DRC members.  The Board meets on the 4th Wednesday of each month at 1:30 p.m. as needed.


SPECIAL PROJECTS

The City of Dade City is applying for Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery funding for the Dade Oaks Regional Stormwater Facility Upgrade. The grant application, in the amount of $3,360,000 will be submitted to the State of Florida Department of Economic Opportunity on August 30, 2019. The project entails the removal of approximately 97,000 cubic yards of dirt, and installation of stormwater infrastructure to reduce risk of flooding for the area. NEIGHBORHOOD PLANNING  
                                          
Under the Neighborhood Improvement Program, the City of Dade City uses an inclusive, collaborative planning process to develop neighborhood plans to assist neighborhood residents and other neighborhood stakeholders in: 1) identifying neighborhood strengths, challenges, and opportunities; 2) developing a shared neighborhood vision and goals; and 3) creating strategies and an action plan to move the neighborhood toward its vision.

RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS

We provide data and analysis to inform decision makers regarding growth management and planning issues at the state, regional and local level.   We present census information and we monitor key indicators that tell us who we are and how we are changing as a city.
